How often has this artist stepped out into her yard and seen such a wonderful variety of birds, including one just like the one depicted here in this interesting assemblage!

The background consists of oil & cold wax, ephemera from an old dictionary, acrylics, and cicada images creating a woodland scene. The bird is busy finding food. The title tells the story; although the insects hide and are created to blend in with their environment, the woodpecker sees them anyway. There is also a bit of whimsy found here in the use of bottle caps on the tree branches and a tiny face peering out from the tree. The wire wrapped nails add a colorful, unusual touch and reminds one of the hammering sounds woodpeckers make as they seek insects in tree bark.
