Project Description

People wonder who God is. This mixed media assemblage is a response to that question. As I researched and printed out many of His names & attributes, I adhered them around the hand focal point because they are central to knowing Him. He has the power and holds all things in His hand. Specifically here however, He holds the seven stars of the seven churches referenced in Revelation 1.16, “He had in His right hand seven stars…” and the mystery of them is explained in verse 20; “The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches…”.

It is a stunning piece in many ways. The significance of all of the symbols, words, and even the colors, coalesce in spiritual richness and depth. The colors are representative of His royalty-purple, purity-silver, kingship & glory-gold, righteousness & justice-copper, heavenliness- light blue, and atonement-red. There are twelve roses representative of the twelve apostles, and a total of seventy-two names encircling His (symbolic) hand.

The base for this piece is a repurposed ceiling medallion. It was the perfect starting point for the message, with its open center to hold a hand.  Many textures were created with papers, paints, and mediums to enhance it all. The stars are hand-formed from a star napkin ring and polymer clay to obtain uniform size and thickness.

The piece measures 25′ x 25″ x 8″. It’s not very heavy and hangs from d-rings and wire.

The inspiration for this artwork was taken from the Holy Scripture, Revelation 2.1.
